ACE is an advanced multi-purpose computer system that can operate in the office or home, as well as in harsh and rugged environments. Unlike current desktops and laptops that cannot handle every type of environment where computers are used, ACE meets the challenges.
ACE provides all the capabilities found in today’s home computers, but can also withstand and operate under duress, including withstanding extreme vibrations and shocks.
In an emergency situation where regular power is not available, the ACE system can be operational using a regular 12-Volt vehicle battery.
For vehicle applications, the ACE system can be placed in the trunk of a vehicle - essentially in the same place where a six-CD changer would be stored. A touch screen can be mounted in the front of the vehicle or inside the dashboard.
The following applications have been successfully tested with ACE mounted inside vehicles to turn your vehicle into a wireless multi-media system:
- CD, MP3 - gives the user the ability to listen to music CDs or MP3 music files, allowing the user to store several thousand songs.
- DVD - allows passengers in the vehicle to watch DVDs.
- USB TV - allows passengers to watch local TV channels.
- USB FM Radio - gives the user FM radio capabilities without the need for conventional radio.
- USB GPS - USB GPS receiver capable of displaying maps for accurate navigation. Use any PC maps as long as it is compatible with the USB GPS of your choice.
- 5.1 and 7.1 surround sound system - we used Logitech speakers and a Sound Blaster card to give our vehicle sound clarity, quality and power. No sound card is necessary to achieve 5.1 surround sound.
- Business-to-Vehicle Wireless Communication - allows the user to connect to a business from the vehicle via wireless modem device.
- Vehicle-to-Home Wireless Communication - allows the user to transfer information from the vehicle to the home computer via wireless. Download your favorite songs, pictures, files, etc.
- Vehicle-to-Vehicle Communication - one of the most important features of the ACE system, not only for short-range leisure communication between vehicles.
Fully Expandable by third party software developers - we have been able to run Windows and Linux software.
- “Black Box” capabilities - with PC Cameras we were able to store information in ACE on what was going on outside and inside the vehicle. Other third party USB devices can be used to store information such as RPM, velocity, AC setting, and others can be kept for a period of time (weeks or months at any frequency desired).
Other vehicle applications we are testing
or will be testing in the near future:
- USB Police Radar Detector - The ACE system has the capability to have multiple USB ports available for external devices and one of them could be a police radar detector. The user decides when to have the radar detector on. With the computational power inside ACE more sophisticated algorithm can be used.
- Vehicle Security - The USB ports can be used for the development of a vehicle security system based on web cameras inside the vehicle to monitor who enters the vehicle. The system described on the “Vehicle-to-Vehicle communication” feature could be used to send messages from the stolen vehicle to other vehicles so the police can be notified.
- Homeland Defense - An explosive detection device or a biological agent probe to be connected via USB port to the ACE system in order to monitor people as they enter mass transportation systems such as buses and trains.
- Police vehicles - Allows police cruisers to be equipped with ACE to enable police to face and handle threats effectively. Through external probes attached to the USB port provided by ACE, law enforcement agencies can trace explosives and biological agents.
- Virtual Dashboard - Gives users the ability to control vehicle air condition functions and offers users the ability to create their own unique dashboard design. This can be accomplished by connecting ACE to the vehicle's computer.
- Proximity alerts - Lets users know when cars are in the blind spot.
- Using software like Mathematica, we are testing software applications to provide computing power equivalent to parallel processing. This could be used to control the dynamics of the car in real-time.
